March 16-20

PIKE TENNIS matches this week:  March 17 at home vs. Crenshaw and March 19 at home vs. Springwood

Life Science

We will continue in Chapter 15 with the Skeletal System.  Students will complete a KWL foldable and notes on skeletal system Monday.  Tuesday they will learn about long bones and complete a body organization chart.  Wednesday students will learn about skeletal joints.  Thursday they will label a skeleton and Friday they will complete a foldable on bone cells.

Biology

Mollusk project is due Tuesday.   Ch 28 Arthropods is the focus this week.  Students will take notes on arthropods Monday.  Tuesday they will complete an arthropod color and label activity. Wednesday students will complete a spider drawing from page 749 in text on IN page 96.  They will watch Bill NYe:  Spiders and complete the student reflection on IN 96.  Thursday students will complete an Arthropod comparative anatomy chart and work on Arthropod poetry.  Friday we will view Bill Nye:  Insects and complete a KWL as guided viewing for the video.

Anatomy

The Digestive System is the focus this week.  Students will take notes Monday -Wednesday and complete color/label activities on the digestives system, the stomach, accessory organs and the mouth. Students will be assigned a Digestive System Tshirt project due April 2.  We will wrap up the week with Bill NyeA:  digestion.

Forensics

Toxicology is the topic of the week.  STudents will take notes Monday.  Tuesday they will read real life toxicology case studies.  Students will learn about famous poisoners in history and will begin working on their poison projects.

We will begin our study of muscles (Chapter 15)

Biology

We will dissect earthworms on Monday.  Tuesday and Wednesday we will cover Phylum Mollusca.
NIne weeks test will cover Ch 27:  Annelids and Mollusks.

Anatomy

Nine weeks test on Cardiovascular System.  Notebook check this week.  Pages 52.53, 58/59.  There will be two surprise pages and pick your "fav" pages.

March 2-6

Tennis was canceled today due to yucky court conditions. Tomorrow should be beautiful weather for tennis. We travel to Lakeside.  Team will check out at 12 noon and grab a sandwich at Subway and depart for Lakeside at 12:30.  We will eat after the match in Eufaula.

Life Science

We are in Chapter 15 studying the Integumentary System.  Today in class, students completed a foldable on the fingernail and heat and waste exchange through the skin.  Your student should finish the heat and waste exchange foldable for homework if it was not completed in class.  Use page 436 in textbook.

Tuesday:  Students will complete IN 63 Reinforcement activity, IN 62 - Skin drawing and labeling (pp 434 in text) and IN 60 .

Wednesday:  Skin Prints lab and Synectics (analogies)

Thursday:  Review the Integumentary System.


Biology

Monday:  IN 79 notes on Chapter 27 Annelids
Tuesday:  IN 77 Study guide for Chapter 26 Test which is Wednesday. Students will complete IN 78 Earthworm Anatomy and Comparative Anatomy Table and read the "Observation of a Live Earthworm lab"  on IN 80 and 81.
Wednesday:  Live Earthworm Lab and Ch 26 Test
Thursday:  IN 82.83  Reading Assignment:  Tiny Earthworm's Big Impact.
Friday:  Earthworm Dissection

Anatomy:

We are continuing the Cardiovascular System.  IN 64 and 66 should be completed.  Heart Dissection Tuesday.  Notes on the Cardiac Cycle Thursday IN 67/69.  Bring your laptop Wednesday.


Forensics

Continue reading your chosen book.  Book/Movie Review  Monday, March 9,  Complete Pharoah's Femur Lab Tuesday.  Wednesday we will watch Benjamin Franklin's Bones.  You will have class time on Thursday to work on book review.  Friday you will have a reading assignment from Kid's Discover Magazine :  Bones.

Those students going on Camp McDowell Field trip need to turn in risk and health forms ASAP.  They were due on Feb, 19.
TEst on Excretory System Wednesday.  We will do a study guide in class Tuesday.

Biology

Test on Ch 25 Wednesday.  Study guides to go out Tuesday for 3rd period.  5 period received theirs today.  We are in Chapter 26.  Students should complete Notebook pages 71 for Monday homework.

Anatomy

Test on Endocrine System Wednesday.  Study Guide is page 48 in notebook.

Forensics

Please bring your assigned reading material to class on Tuesday and Thursday of this week  The book review is due March 9.

Feb 17-20

Life Science

We will do a study guide in class Tuesday as a review for the Respiratory System Test.  The study guide will be worth 5 extra credit points.  The test is Wednesday.  We will begin our study of the excretory system after the test.

REMEMBER:  Camp McDowell parent meeting Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 pm in the computer lab.

Biology

IN pages 44 and 46 due today.  Project grade.  We will do a Bacteria and Virus Study Guide today in class in preparation for the test tomorrow.  Completed study guide is worth 5 extra credit points.
Complete IN 52:  Reflection on a Virus.

NOTEBOOK check on Friday on our virus and bacteria unit.

Anatomy

We WILL finish notes on the endocrine system today.  I WILL check notebooks this week starting Wednesday.   IN pages  34/35, 36/37, 38/39 and two of your favorite pages.

Support PIKE Basketball at the Elite 8 Tournament Thursday, Feb. 5 at 1:30!  Grades 7-12 will be dismissed at noon Thursday.

Life Science

Notebook check Tuesday, Feb. 3.  Pages I will check are 128/129 and 26/27.  There will be two "surprise" pages that I will grade.  Pages that are eligible to be checked are from 122-27.  You choose two of your best or favorite pages for me to check.  BE sure to create Left Side Questions, Summaries and Highlight key terms, headings and concepts.

Test on Digestion will be Friday.

Parent meeting for Camp McDowell is Feb. 19 at 5:30 pm.  Complete your camp forms and return to me by the 19th.

Life Science:

Test tomorrow on Immunity and Disease.  You will work on a study guide today in class.  This will be IN 28.  You will be able to use the foldable you created in class yesterday on the test.  Use IN pages 24, 25 and 27 to study.

IMPORTANT:

Camp McDowell Field trip parent meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 in the PIKE cafetorium.  A representative from Camp McDowell will meet with us.  Students will receive a packet of forms next week to be completed before attending Camp McDowell.  These can be turned in at the parent meeting.

We will have a notebook check Tuesday of next week.
